What's Between the Sheets
When I first started I was nervous about how much I was going to be able to make. I bought $20 sheets from Ross and filled my room with junky ikea funiture.
6 months later I was making good money and everything in my airbnb room had completely broken down. The sheets looked years old and all my funiture was falling apart. I decided it was time to bite the bullet and upgrade to things that would last. Thus costly me less moeny in the long wrong.
Furniture: Guests will be very hard on your stuff. There are things you can do to buy quality and not break the bank. I went out and bought furniture from thift stores and painted them or replaced the hardwear to bring them into this century. Other things were in good enough condition so I left them as they were becuase i'm going for the vintage look in my house. Real wood furniture will be able to take the abuse of guests and if you get it at a thift store for cheap, you won't be so upset when a guest puts a scatch in it. And they WILL!!!
Here is a picture of one of my rooms. I choose a vintage style for my house. The bed I bought for $50 on craigslist. It's sturdy and doens't make noise when people get into it. Which is important when having a multilevel house. The comforter and sheets I got on overstock.com.
Sheets and Mattress Cover:
Other things it's best to buy new are sheets and a mattress cover. I have discovered the hard way that a mattress cover is essentail. No matter what you tell your geusts they will eat in your space and they will spill. You would be amazed at the abuse my mattress covers get. I really like this mattress cover from amazon. I love to use flannel sheets in the winter. If you buy quaulity they hold up in the wash and they keep your guests warm. I always have two sets for each bed so I can change the sheets when one guest leaves and not have to wash and dry sheets all within the same day. In the summer I like to use these sheets. I like them best in white, because it's easier to get stains out of white.
Cheap Comforter or Down Comforter?:
I started with an old cheap comforter that I had bought from Target. Which was fine for the summer. But when winter came, my guests were complaining that they were cold. I broke down and bought a nice down comforter and a duvet cover. Best money I ever spent on my bnb. It really made a difference to the comfort of my guests. Plus now I can take off the duvet cover and wash it, instead of trying to stuff a whole comforter in to my washing machine.
Towels:
All I can say is white quailty towels. Women do horrible things to towels.... including take their makeup off with them. Your life will be so much easier if you buy white towels so they can be bleached.
I know it hurts your wallet, but I recommend that you buy well made things. Your linens will be beat up and you don't want to have to go out and buy new all the time. On the plus side, guests notice when they are sleeping on quality and review you accordingly.
